Research findings took center stage at various forestry events in different regions of Brazil   The findings of the Forest Restoration research conducted by Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio (CBA) in partnership with the Restoration Laboratory of the Federal University of Viçosa (LARF/UFV) have been taking the spotlight at important national scientific events. The November presentations shared innovative projects with the scientific community that promote environmental sustainability in bauxite mining in the Zona da Mata Mineira region. These projects can also be applied by other sectors, driving positive socio-environmental transformations and actions beyond the aluminum industry.   Professor Sebastião Venâncio Martins, the LARF coordinator, gave a lecture on "Alternative techniques for forest restoration" during the Forest Studies Week, an event organized by the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR). In his presentation, the lecturer explained the practice of tall-seedling planting, an innovative CBA project that is changing the landscape and attracting wildlife to ecological corridors in Itamarati de Minas and the surrounding area.  The lecture also addressed the techniques used in offsetting restoration projects in the region, demonstrating how the adopted practices yield positive results for biodiversity.   In Brasília, lecturer Venâncio also gave a lecture on "Biodiversity in ecological restoration."  The presentation was part of the National Symposium on the Recovery of Degraded Areas (SINRAD), the largest event focused on the efficiency of forest restoration processes and environmental rehabilitation. The symposium is attracting an increasing number of attendees from Brazil and beyond.   "This lecture focused on recovering biodiversity in the forests restored by CBA.  The results are being monitored and assured by LARF through wildlife cameras and botanical surveys of the local vegetation," lecturer Venâncio adds.   In addition to the lecturer, LARF-affiliated researchers also gave presentations on other environmental studies taking place under the research. Master's students Wesley da Silva Fonseca and Patrícia Laviola Ricardo spoke at the Academic Integration Symposium (SIA/UFV), recapping the results of forest restoration projects they conducted with CBA.   For Christian Fonseca de Andrade, the manager of CBA's Mines in Zona da Mata Mineira, these presentations provided excellent opportunities to disseminate results germane to forest restoration and biodiversity in projects connected with CBA's sustainable mining practices. "All of this bolsters the commitment and dedication of CBA and the university in working towards sustainable mining.  In addition to benefiting the environment in Zona da Mata Mineira, especially local farmers in the region, the work conducted in environmental rehabilitation and forest restoration allows other players to harness the techniques developed in collaboration with UFV in their environmental projects," he affirms.  About CBA Founded in 1955, Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio - CBA is a vertically integrated producer, from cradle to gate, including recycling.
