Nine initiatives were showcased during the closing of the Environmental Education Refresher Training course. In its 21-year history, over 1,200 educators have now participated in the program.  Educators, school administrators and teachers from nine public schools in Poços de Caldas, Caldas and Divinolândia attended the Closing of the Environmental Education Refresher Training. The initiative comprises the Environmental Education Program (PEA) run by Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio (CBA), which aims to raise awareness about environmental conservation among communities.   Carried out in partnership with Ekoa, in 2022 the course ran the topic "The resumption of in-person classes: environmental education as an integration tool," Throughout the year, teachers developed environmental projects in their schools based on the content covered.   Maria Helena Braga, the Municipal Education Secretary in Poços de Caldas, emphasizes the need to work on environmental education with children and adolescents. "They learn at school and take the knowledge and classroom experience home to their families and friends.  It was very rewarding to witness the presentation of such important initiatives in our schools.  All the projects presented were carried out with aplomb," she stresses.   At the closing event held at CBA's facility in Poços de Caldas, the results of nine educational projects were showcased and evaluated by a judging panel. The top three initiatives were recognized.   First place went to the project "Young Entrepreneurs" proposed by teacher Quézia Pires Domingos Oliva from João Pinheiro Municipal School in Poços de Caldas. The objective of the project was to guide children on business concepts, organization and early financial management.   "To organize our students' graduation, we encouraged entrepreneurship for fundraising.  They had an incredible experience because, in addition to learning calculations, they learned about recycling processes and how to create and maintain a garden.  I am very happy with the award because it reinforces that we are on the right track and teaching important topics to our young ones, who are between 10 and 11 years old," enthuses Quézia.   The project "Environment: Rethinking Consumption – The Choice is Yours!" presented by teachers Edivânia Cristina Dias and Rosana Rosseto from the José Pereira da Silva Municipal Primary School (EMEB) in Divinolândia, took second place. The initiative also involved the participation of teachers Adriana Bertolini, Daniela Faria and Natany Silva. The project emphasizes the importance of the environment and human interference while contributing to the environment by protecting, conserving and ensuring conditions for a future desired by all.   Third place went to the project "Recycle by Reusing," which led students to reconsider their own consumption habits, reduce consumption, reuse objects, recycle materials and refuse products that are harmful to the environment or exploit human labor. The initiative was presented by teacher Maria Helena de Lima from the Wilson Hedy Molinari Municipal School in Poços de Caldas.   Alexis Dias de Souza, the manager of CBA's Mine in Poços de Caldas, highlights the importance of the course and the involvement of teachers, students and school communities in this year's projects.   "The Environmental Education Course has already established itself as a standard setter in the training and development of educators as agents of environmental awareness.  The program offered new possibilities for working on environmental education in an interdisciplinary context, making the return to face-to-face classes more attractive and enjoyable.  We are immensely satisfied with the commitment of the teachers and the mobilization of the school communities in the proposed initiatives," he concludes.   Environmental Education Program - PEA Now in its 21st year, CBA's PEA is an initiative that aims to disseminate the environmental viability of mining activities through knowledge about the environment and to enable its preservation, sustainable use and the pursuit of values that lead to harmonious coexistence with the environment and other species that inhabit the planet.   Since its inception, the initiative has involved the participation of more than 145,000 people in Minas Gerais, where the Company has bauxite mines.   About CBA Founded in 1955, Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio - CBA is a vertically integrated producer, from cradle to gate.
